Nagpur Metro Rail New route

Nagpur Metro Rail New route

The route of Metro Rail has been changed and instead of going from Congress Nagar Square to Rahate Colony, the new route will run through Congress Nagar Square-Ajni Square via Ajni railway station and Central Prison.
The changes were made after Union transport and shipping minister Nitin Gadkari requested chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. As per the development plan, the stretch from Central Prison to Ajni Square will be constructed by NMC, while Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) will erect the pillars. Since the road from Congress Nagar Square to Rahate Colony is narrow, it will be difficult to take the Metro Rail track from here. NMRCL director Brijesh Dixit informed Lokmat Media that new route will help speed up the project.

Public opposition For New Nagpur Metro Route

New English High School, forensic laboratory, Home Guard office and Ramkrishna Matha are located along the road from Congress Nagar Square to Rahate Colony, hence the people here opposed the construction of track here. Sources informed that a meeting was held in Mumbai three days ago to discuss the feasibility of the new route. As per the development plan, the track from prison premises has been okayed. The changes will make it easy to take the Metro Rail straight from Congress Nagar Square to the proposed flyover at Ajni Square.
This meeting was attended by district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, mayor Pravin Datke, DGP Pravin Dixit NMRCL managing director Brijesh Dixit, additional DGP (prison) Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay and NMC commissioner Shravan Hardikar.
